Obituary: Richard S. Wendry, 79, of Middletown
Richard was a devoted family man, member of the Polish Falcons, church trustee, eucharistic minister and community volunteer.
MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home) Richard S. Wendry, 79, of Middletown, beloved husband of Janice E. (Dineen) Wendry, died Friday, August 27, 2021, at Middlesex Hospital.
Richard was born in Middletown, son of the late Francis and Loretta (Reynolds) Wendrychowicz and stepson of the late Rose (Salafia) Wendrychowicz.
He enjoyed working 33 years at Sears on Main Street and made many life-long friends; during this time, he was an involved member and two-term president of the Polish Falcons and oversaw construction of the Pavilion on Crystal Lake.
After retirement, he continued to work and make new friends as a volunteer at Saint John’s Church.
Proud to serve as a church trustee and eucharistic minister, he also enjoyed overseeing many restoration projects as head of the church building committee.
Later in life, Richard took even greater pride and joy in spending time with his five grandchildren. Motivated by faith, family, and friends, he loved helping others and treated every gathering as a celebration.
In addition to his wife Janice, Richard is survived by his son, Brian Wendry of Coventry; his daughter, Beth Pattavina, and her husband, Jon, of Higganum; five grandchildren, Will, Wyatt, and Wade Wendry and Emily and Lily Pattavina; his brother-in-law, Vinnie Dalo of Rocky Hill; his sister-in-law, Sue Dineen of Killingworth; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Walter Wendrychowicz, and his sister, Barbara Dalo.
A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 2, at 10 a.m. at Saint John’s Church in Middletown.
Christian burial will follow at Saint John’s Cemetery. Friends may call at Biega Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be sent to either Saint John’s Renovation Fund or Saint Vincent de Paul’s, Middletown.
