Obituary: Sebastiana Nella (Catalano) D’Amico, 90, of Middletown
Nella, known for her strong work ethic and cooking skills, cherished family gatherings and loved her vegetable and rose gardens.
MIDDLETOWN, CT - (From Biega Funeral Home): Sebastiana "Nella" (Catalano) D’Amico, 90, of Middletown, beloved wife of the late John B. D’Amico, died Saturday, August 21, 2021 at Middlesex Hospital.
Nella was born in Melilli, Italy, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Maria (Fargione) Catalano. Her life was always centered on taking care of her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Nella’s career included Rogers Manufacturing, Fenner America and Safeway. She spent her last 15 years of work at Wadsworth Glen Health Care and Rehabilitation Center cooking meals for residents, who all appreciated Nella’s “home –made chicken soup.”
She passed a strong work ethic to all her children.
She especially enjoyed having Sunday meals with anyone from the Family that was able to be there. Planning Holiday dinners, especially Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, were her favorite times to cook and have her whole family around her. During these gatherings, she would prepare everyone’s favorites, including homemade calamari, scacciata, pizzas, octopus and other delicious foods from scratch.
Nella enjoyed picking roses from her rose garden, and home-grown fresh vegetables. She always looked forward to the visits back to Melilli to see her family, especially her sister in-law, Rosetta Catalano, who she was very close to and held dear to her heart.
The last years of Nella’s time was spent with family. She was a loving grandmother that enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren visiting. Everyone “Loved to go to Nonna’s house!!” Nella’s remaining time was spent with her family at her side every single moment.
She is survived by her sons, Anthony D’Amico and Brenda Murtha of North Carolina, Joseph D’Amico of Middletown, Maurizio D’Amico and his wife Maria of East Hampton, Bruno D’Amico and his wife Cheryl of Middletown, and daughters, Josephine Weil and John Griffith of East Hampton, Meri D’Amico-Dillon and her husband John Dillon of Portland, and Marilena Catalano of Middletown.
