PD: Man Driving 85 MPH Who Hit Woman in Front Yard Said Gas Pedal Stuck
Middletown Police say the impact broke the victim's arm and injured her knee and overnight her injuries became much more severe, sending her to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar.

A Hartford man who lost control of his car at a high rate of speed hit a Middletown woman in her own front yard, causing her serious injury, according to police.
On July 5 at 1:52 p.m., police were called to Mile Lane for a car accident involving a pedestrian in which Diego Iguina, 53, of Jefferson Street, Hartford, was driving his car and hit a woman who had just walked into her front yard, according to the report.
Police say Iguina said his accelerator got stuck and when he reached to to see if something was caught there, he took his eyes off the road and swerved to avoid hitting a pickup truck.

He avoided the truck, police say, by hitting the brakes and pulling on his emergency brake but hit the woman, causing 313 feet of skid marks and 130 feet of tire marks in the grass. The report says police didn't observe a stuck gas pedal and the car was driving above 85 miles per hour.
The victim, the report says, suffered a broken arm and bruised knee, admitted to Middlesex Hospital, but the next day was doing much worse, not alert and was then transported to Hartford Hospital with bleeding from her brain and needing a breathing tube.

He was arrested for driving with a suspended license and reckless driving and could face more charges due to the seriousness of the victim's injuries, police say.
