Car Fire Breaks Out After A Head On Collision: Milford Fire Dep't

A two-car head-on collision caused a car fire on Thursday Afternoon.

MILFORD, CT – Milford Professional Firefighters Union said a vehicle fire caused by a two-car head-on collision was extinguished Thursday afternoon.

The head-on collision happened in South Bound Lane on Route 15. Upon arrival, fire crews found two cars had collided head-on, one vehicle was on fire, and the fire had extended to the surrounding woodline.

Squad 1, Quint 5 and Engine 7 extinguished the fire while Medic Units treated and transported two trauma-alert patients to Bridgeport and Yale New Haven Hospitals.

About 1/2 of an acre was burned, and Route 15 southbound was shut down for about an hour before all companies returned to service.

Mutual aid was provided by the Orange Fire Department, along with scene control by Connecticut State Police. Units on Assignment were Car 4, Squad 1, Engine 7, Quint 5, Medic 1, Medic 3, Orange Fire Department Engine, Orange Fire Department and Nelson ambulance.
