Milford Rail Bridge Project Anticipated To Begin This Summer
Work to rehabilitate a Metro North rail bridge is scheduled for this summer, DOT officials said.

MILFORD, CT — The Connecticut Department of Transportation intends to begin work on a railroad bridge in Milford this summer, according to a statement from the agency.
The DOT hosted a virtual public information meeting on the rehabilitation of the Devon Railroad Bridge last week. The bridge carries the Metro North New Haven Line over the Housatonic River.
The project is expected to cost $110 million and will covered by 80 percent federal funds and 20 percent state funds, according to a DOT statement. No right-of-way impacts are anticipated.

“This rehabilitation will provide safety and operations improvements to the Devon Railroad Bridge, carrying one of the most popular rail lines in the U.S. Extending its service life will also lead to the construction of the future Devon Bridge Replacement Project,” DOT Project Manager Gregory Funk said in a statement.
The bridge currently has a rating of 3 out of 9 meaning it is in poor condition, Hearst Connecticut Media reported. The interim rehabilitation work is anticipated to add 10 to 15 years to its lifespan.
