'Role Model' Milford Mom & Coach Gives So Much To Her Community

MILFORD, CT— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Lisa Farrell who nominated Julie Johnson of Milford.

What makes your Mom extra special?

Here’s the thing — Julie isn’t my mom, but she is an inspiration. I’m a teacher at the school (Foran HS) where Julie used to coach. I watched her work with girls for two sports and two seasons while also raising her own two kids and also be an amazing mom to her adult child while also being an awesome grandma.

In addition to her own children, she is a mentor for many in our community. She coached 16 years for volleyball and four for softball. In addition, Julie opened a new business in August 2020 called Cappuginos which is in Milford . They sell great coffee and shakes as well as give back to the community. And give back, she does. Julie is the type of person who will give the shirt off her back and say nothing about it. She has endlessly given her time and support to our whole community.
Previous to this Julie was a police office in New Haven for 20 years and retired as a captain. During this time she has protected and served the greater community.

To me, Julie is a role model and someone I deeply admire. I hope one day to give back to our community just like Julie. Thank you for all you do for Milford. I love you!

Why do you feel your Mom deserves the spotlight?

Because Julie helps out the greater community and gives back to places like the Beth El Center, our schools, and many community agencies that need it. She does fundraisers constantly through Cappuginos like stuff a purse, jacket collections, food pantries and donation days.
