Matthew J. Shepard was sworn in Friday morning as the newest member of the Montville Police Department.
Shepard will begin a 22-week training session at the Connecticut Municipal Police Academy on Wednesday. Following the completion of this training, he will be on a 14-week field training schedule before he is assigned to patrol duty.
Shepard graduated from Gardner High School in Gardner, Mass., in 1995 and most recently was a UPS employee. He lives in Ledyard with his wife and son.
