Motorist Charged In Serious Crash In Montville: Police

The multiple vehicle accident happened on Feb. 20, according to police.

MONTVILLE, CT — A motorist is accused of causing a multi-vehicle accident in February which resulted in life-threatening injuries, and then fleeing the scene.

On Monday, Lyiam Mathis, 28, turned himself in to Montville police.

Mathis was charged on a warrant with first-degree assault - extreme indifference to life, first-degree reckless endangerment, evading responsibility - serious physical injury, reckless driving, and unsafe passing - left side.

The crash happened Feb. 20 on Route 32 in the area of Crow Hill in the Uncasville section of Montville, police said.

Police said Mathis struck another vehicle, which initiated a three-car collision. One of the other drivers sustained “serious life-threatening injuries,” according to police. An investigation is ongoing, police said.

Mathis was arraigned Monday in Superior Court in Norwich, and he is due to appear next on June 16.
