Motorist Speeds Past State Trooper, Clocks In at 121 MPH: State Police

The driver was caught after passing a trooper on the highway, according to police.

MONTVILLE, CT — A Willimantic man is accused of driving 121 miles per hour on I-395 in Montville, according to state police.

On Sunday, a state trooper driving on Route 2 eastbound around 10:40 p.m. saw an Acura TLX approach from behind at a high rate of speed, according to state police.

The Acura passed the trooper’s cruiser, continued on Route 2, then drove onto I-395 south. At that point, the trooper clocked the vehicle’s speed at more than 121 miles per hour, police said.

Police stopped the Acura on I-395 in Montville and arrested the driver, Derek Sweezey, 41, of Willimantic.

Sweezey was charged with reckless driving, and he was released on a $500 bond. He is due to appear in Superior Court in Norwich on June 17.
