Naugatuck Police Lieutenant Retires After 17 Years

He served the department in a variety of roles throughout his career, including field training officer and bicycle officer.

NAUGATUCK, CT — A Naugatuck police lieutenant recently retired after 17 years of service with the department, according to police.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the department said Police Lt. Ryan Burns began his law enforcement journey as a teenager and took part in the Naugatuck Police Explorers program.

He was officially hired as a police officer on July 7, 2008, and served the department in a variety of roles throughout his career, including explorer advisor, field training officer, bicycle officer, traffic services officer, supervisor and commander, according to police.

Burns was also a member of the Naugatuck Valley Crash Investigation Team and rose through the ranks as patrol sergeant, patrol lieutenant and ultimately retired as the detective lieutenant, police said.

He is a graduate of the PERF Senior Management Institute for Police Session #93 and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command Class #472, according to the department.

"Thank you, Lt. Burns, for your leadership, service and commitment to the community," police wrote on Facebook. "We wish you the very best in your well-earned retirement!"
