Spending Down in Naugatuck But Tax Rate Inches Up: Report

NAUGATUCK, CT — The average taxpayer in Naugatuck with a house value at $200,000 would pay an extra $178 in taxes next year, according to the budget being finalized by Borough leaders, the Republican-American. The tax rate is expected to increase by 0.89 mills.

Despite the tax increase spending is actually down, the schools budget is unchanged at $61.6 million and the town budget is actually down $192,000, the Rep-Am reports. (To sign up for Naugatuck breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Some other highlights include:

$150,000 hike for health care costs

municipal salaries increasing on average by 2.57 percent

fire department salary and wages account declined by $281,000 due to the fact the department is full-staffed again, which reduces the overtime accounts.

The boards of Mayor and Burgesses will vote on the budget and tax rate Monday night.
