State Bond Commission To Approve Funds For Project In Naugatuck: Cabrera
State Sen. Jorge Cabrera said the State Bond Commission is expected to approve $9.25 million for projects in Naugatuck, Derby and Hamden.
NAUGATUCK, CT — State Senator Jorge Cabrera (D-Hamden) announced this week the State Bond Commission is expected to approve $9.25 million for projects in Naugatuck, Derby and Hamden.
According to a news release provided by Cabrera, the bonding to be approved includes:
- Naugatuck - $7,494,240 for renovations to Kinney Hall at CT State Naugatuck (formerly Naugatuck Valley Community College). Kinney Hall is a four-level facility constructed in 1977 and, at 45 years old, it's the oldest building on CT State Naugatuck’s campus that has not enjoyed any significant improvements. 50 percent of the classrooms will be refurbished in place to include new finishes, lighting, technology, power, and furniture. Other improvements include a fire sprinkler system, upgraded fire alarm system, replacing all HVAC system equipment, increasing the building's electrical capacity, expanded electrical distribution, and asbestos floor and pipe covering removal. Further, major ADA accessibility improvements will include new elevators, renovated toilet rooms, egress stair modifications and barrier-free access into many classrooms.
- Derby - $167,977 for Derby to support the upgrade of the elevator system at the Derby Senior Citizens Center. "It will make a huge difference, because the elevator is always breaking down. We have four levels, and a lot of seniors can’t take the stairs," Dawn Hebert, executive director of the senior center, said in a news release.
- Hamden - $1,584,875 for parking lot maintenance and replacement of curbing and sidewalks at the Hamden DMV facility on State Street.
All three items are expected to be approved when the State Bond Commission meets Friday morning in Hartford, according to Cabrera.
