Walgreens To Close Waterbury Store

The pharmacy chain previously announced it would close two stores last month, as it plans to shutter 1,200 over three years.

WATERBURY, CT — Walgreens is closing its pharmacy on Meriden Road in Waterbury, according to WTNH News-8. The store's final day of operation will be April 22.

Last month, Walgreens announced it was closing stores in Hartford and New Haven. In December, the pharmacy store chain announced another closure in New Haven and one in East Hampton.

A Walgreens spokesman said last month that the closures were not "an easy decision" but "increased regulatory and reimbursement pressures are weighing on our ability to cover the costs associated with rent, staffing, and supply needs."

The closure of the Waterbury store comes as Walgreens plans to shutter 1,200 stores over the next three years, according to NBC CT.

Customers at the Meriden Road location will be notified by mail and their prescription will be transferred to the next nearest location, which is at 649 W. Main St.
