Community Network Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve

Leaders Learn About Benefits of Military Experience in Employees

Many employers don’t fully understand how the military service of their employees can benefit them in a variety of ways.

On Friday, July 15, Hartford HealthCare Community Network leaders had the opportunity to learn about Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR) through an employer familiarization event known as a Bosslift. The Bosslift is designed to promote the military training inherent in military employees. It is a one-day event that exposes employers to the training Guardsmen and Reservists go through during periods of service.

ESGR understands the unique talents and skill set Guard and Reserve service members can bring to the civilian workforce. The program encourages employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military.

β€œThe Bosslift event was a day we won’t soon forget,” said Eric Smullen, senior vice president, Hartford HealthCare Community Network. β€œSeeing first-hand what these dedicated men and women do was impressive. The values, leadership and unique skills these service members bring to our workforce are invaluable and we will continue to recognize and support our colleagues who serve and their families.”

As part of the program, they were transported by a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and had the opportunity to observe Guard and Reserve members on duty. The service members shared what a day-in-life looks like for those that are serving, working a full day with their employer, driving to the base, changing into their uniform and eating a quick dinner before spending another eight hours in the field or in the sky.
