Downed Power Lines Slow Traffic In Newington

Police are urging folks to avoid a busy intersection in town as crews tend to the scene.

NEWINGTON, CT — Downed power lines are causing a traffic mess in Newington, not to mention a few power outages, on Monday afternoon.

The Newington Police Department reports that wires are down at the intersection of Willard Avenue and Louis Street.

This, police said, has caused some traffic lights on the nearby Berlin Turnpike and Main Street to be shut off.

"Please avoid this area," wrote the NPD after 1 p.m. Monday. "There are also reports of several power outages in the area."
