Storms Close Major Roadways In Newington: UPDATE

A line of heavy rain and thunderstorms plowed through Connecticut Wednesday night, causing many road closures.

NEWINGTON, CT β€” A nasty line of heavy rain and thunderstorms wreaked havoc on Connecticut late Wednesday night, with Newington amongthe towns impacted by road closures.

According to the state Department of Transportation, Route 176 between Church Hill Road and Hopkins Road was closed late Wednesday after a tree was toppled onto utility wires.

The closure was first reported at 11:23 p.m. Wednesday and by early Thursday morning, it was still "unknown" when it would reopen.

Later Thursday morning, the DOT reported that Route 173 was closed at Route 175 due to a tree down in the wires.

That situation was first reported at 8:13 a.m. and it was "unknown" when that would be cleared as well.
