Flood Warning Issued For New London/Middlesex County

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for portions of Middlesex and New London County Monday morning.

UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for south central New London County until 12:15 p.m.

"At 1007 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly."

NEW LONDON/MIDDLESEX COUNTY, CT — The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a Flash Flood Warning for portions of Middlesex and New London counties until 10:45 a.m. Monday.

"At 748 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area," the weather service said." Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly."

Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, Lyme, Essex, Fenwick and Saybrook Manor.


Strong Storm

"A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southwestern New London and southern Middlesex Counties through 800 AM EDT,"the weather service said. "At 713 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Old Saybrook, moving northeast at 25 mph."

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 30 mph.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects.

Locations impacted include:
New London, Groton, Old Saybrook, Salem, Waterford, East Lyme, Ledyard, East Haddam, Old Lyme, Westbrook, Lyme, North Lyme, Montville, Essex and Deep River.


Flood Watch

"A slow moving line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move across the watch area through early this afternoon," the weather service said. "Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches will be possible with localized amounts of 3 to 4 inches possible. These totals may result in flash flooding of urban and low lying areas. In addition, some streams may reach flood stage."
