New London Activates Severe Cold Weather Protocols For Season
The city, working with its community partners, is opening several warming centers for the public.

NEW LONDON, CT — The City of New London, working with our valued community partners, the Homeless Hospitality Center, the New London Public Library, the New London Community Meal Center, and the New London Senior Citizen Center, announces warming centers for the public in need during cold winter weather.
The Daytime Warming Center at the Homeless Hospitality Center, at 325 Huntington Street, is open during Cold Weather from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Guests who utilize the services of the New London Community Meal Center will be afforded to stay at the Meal Center for a few additional hours after dinner. Transportation from the Meal Center to the nighttime Warming Center at the Homeless Hospitality Center’s Shelter will be provided between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM. The Nighttime Warming Center at the Shelter will start at 9:00 PM, and the Shelter will accept guest check-in up to 9:30 PM. A 211 call is unnecessary before arriving at the shelter.

Additional daytime Warming Centers are also open at the Adult Reading Room in the New London Public Library, 63 Huntington Street. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 9:30 am to 7:00 pm; Friday and Saturday, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm; and Sunday, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The New London Senior Citizen Center, at 10 Brainard St., will also serve as a warming center for those 55 and over from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
The New London Police and Fire Department Personnel will closely monitor those at risk or needing sheltering services. Community members are encouraged to check on their family members and neighbors who might be at risk and require additional assistance during this dangerous cold period.
