New London Beach Lands On List Of America's Best

NEW LONDON, CT — Rain may be dominant in the forecast, but before you know it, summer will be here.

And if you want to get out to the beach when the temperatures soar, then one of the best places to do so is right here in the Nutmeg State.

Ocean Beach Park in New London has made Travel + Leisure's "25 Best Beaches in the USA" for the second year in a row. Others on the list include Poipu Beach in Kauai, Hawaii, and Coronado Beach in San Diego, California.

Here's what the publication had to say about Ocean Park Beach: "This half-mile, golden-sand beach with gentle tides provides great views of ferries and schooners sailing past the New London Ledge Lighthouse. Ocean Beach Park, located along the boardwalk, features a picnic area, playground, snack bar, mini-golf, arcade, and more. When you've had your fill of one of New England's premier sugar sand beaches, take a dip in the Olympic-size pool."

According to its website, Ocean Park Beach is "New England's finest sugar sand beach and boardwalk attraction."

The park is 50 acres and has an 8,000-square-foot banquet and conference facility.

The beach receives a 4-star rating on TripAdvisor. One reviewer wrote: "We love this beach and the pool is awesome! So much to do and see."
