Part Of Gold Star Bridge To Be Closed Due To Construction
Part of the I-95 bridge will be closed as part of a $50 million project.
NEW LONDON, CT — The right lane and shoulder of the Gold Star Bridge on I-95 north will be closed for construction. Crews are working to improve the structure below the deck surface as part of a $50 million project.
The construction will reduce the bridge, which connects Groton and New London, to four lanes and shut down the right shoulder until further notice.
“I urge everyone to slow down, be aware of their surroundings, and remain focused behind the wheel,” said state Rep. Aundré Bumgardner (D-Groton, Stonington). “This construction work is going to improve the Gold Star Memorial Bridge for years to come.”

According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the bridge itself is safe for drivers.
The bridge deck, sidewalk, fencing, railing, and shoulder pavement around the crash site will need further inspection and repairs before the sidewalk and shoulder can be reopened, according to the statement.
