Traffic Changes Coming To Downtown New London Street
A street will soon be one-way only and parking restrictions will also be added.

NEW LONDON, CT — The New London Police Department has released information regarding a traffic change that will go into effect at the end of the month.
The police department posted the following on Facebook:
On January 31, 2025 there will be an important change regarding a portion of Meridian Street, New London, CT.

After thorough planning and consideration, a reconfiguration of a portion of Meridian Street, the portion between Federal St. and Governor Winthrop Blvd., will be restructured from a two-way street to a one-way street. In addition, "No Parking" on either side of the street will be permitted.
Meridian St. between State St. and Governor Winthrop Blvd. will remain two-way and the parking guidelines will also remain the same on this section of Meridian St.

The change is tentatively scheduled to occur on 1/31/2025. Signage will be clearly posted to indicate the reconfiguration.
This modification is part of the City's continuous efforts to enhance safety and improve traffic flow within the downtown area.
The reconfiguration will introduce several key safety measures, including:
- Reduced traffic congestion, resulting in smoother and more predictable vehicle flow.
- A clearer right-of-way.
- Improved visibility for drivers, which will help reduce the likelihood of accidents.- Enhanced access for emergency vehicles.
