Norwalk Public Schools Offering 50 Seats At 3 Open Choice Magnet Schools
Students in Darien, New Canaan, Weston, Westport and Wilton can now apply to attend Norwalk Public Schools' Open Choice magnet schools.

NORWALK, CT — Students in Darien, New Canaan, Weston, Westport and Wilton can now apply to attend Norwalk Public Schools' Open Choice magnet schools.
According to a news release provided by the school district, NPS is working with Cooperative Educational Services to offer 50 open choice seats across three schools: Kendall College and Career Academy (grades K-5), Ponus Ridge STEAM Academy (grades 6-8) and P-TECH Norwalk (grades 9-14).

The deadline to apply is Aug. 9. Those interested can apply here.
A recent update to legislation has allowed for Norwalk Public Schools to offer Open Choice to students outside of the district and share these excellent learning experiences with more families in the area, according to the district.

These shared educational options are intended to enrich the school systems with greater diversity and provide students with broader social and cultural perspectives, according to the district.
Additionally, it allows the district to expose neighboring students and families to high-quality educational practices that will ensure optimal outcomes for all students it serves, according to the NPS.
The Open Choice program through CES was established by legislation in 1997 to reduce racial, ethnic and economic isolation and improve academic achievement among students. Through the Open Choice program, students living in urban areas have the opportunity to apply to attend school in participating suburban school districts when space is available, according to the district.
