Norwich Man Killed When Truck Collides With Three Dirt Bikes: Police

Multiple operators were hospitalized due to the crash in Voluntown, according to state police.

VOLUNTOWN — A Norwich man was killed Monday night when a truck collided with three dirt bikes on Ekonk Hill Road, state police said.

The fatally injured victim had been operating one of the dirt bikes, police said. Two other dirt bike riders and the pickup truck driver were also injured, according to state police.

State police said the accident happened around 7:33 p.m. on Ekonk Hill Road, or Route 49.

A 64-year-old Jewett City man was operating a Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound on Route 49 when he collided with three dirt bikes, police said.

One of the dirt bike operators, Michael Davis, 28, of Norwich, was pronounced dead at Backus Hospital.

A second dirt bike operator, a 26-year-old Niantic resident, was taken via LifeStar helicopter to Hartford Hospital.

A third dirt bike operator, a 20-year-old Taftville resident, sustained injuries and was taken to Backus Hospital.

A fourth dirt bike was with the other three, but that operator, a 25-year-old Voluntown resident, took evasive action and avoided being involved in the collision, police said.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to Backus Plainfield Emergency Care Center, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, state police said Tuesday.
