Yale New Haven Health to close Norwich heart and vascular center (theday.com) — Patients in Norwich are losing local access to Yale New Haven Health’s Heart and Vascular Center, which will stop seeing patients after Feb. 27 at Wawecus Medical Center. Care is being shifted to larger sites like Old Saybrook, Uncasville, Waterford, New London and Guilford, where the system says more services and appointment options are available.
   

2. Phone scammer allegedly claiming to be Norwich police chief (wtnh.com) — Norwich police are warning residents about a scam caller falsely claiming to be Police Chief Patrick Daley and spoofing an official department phone number. If you get a call saying your identity is being used to buy fentanyl, hang up, share no information, and verify directly with Norwich police at 860-886-5561 while warning friends and family.
   

3. Norwich seeking bids for Mason House, part of former Thermos factory (theday.com) — Norwich is seeking contractor bids to stabilize and restore the historic Mason House next to the Integrated Day Charter School, the first step toward expanding classrooms and health services. If additional state funding is approved, the project could add new classrooms, offices for mental health counselors, and more space for school and community gatherings, helping ease the school’s long waiting list.
   

4. ‘This isn't heroic': Family lashes out after NJ firefighter crashes into family SUV, killing 24-year-old (nj1015.com) — A Norwich family was devastated when a wrong-way crash on Route 80 in New Jersey killed 24-year-old Imani Furman and injured her mother and toddler. Relatives from Norwich and beyond are pushing back on media portrayals of the off-duty firefighter who struck their SUV, saying coverage has unfairly cast him as heroic.
