Worker Dies After Workplace Accident In Norwich: Reports

NORWICH, CT — Michael Dirocco, 60, of Norwich, died after a trench collapsed Friday evening near Hamilton Court, WFSB 3 TV reported.

The trench was around 30 feet long and was being dug in an attempt to complete a residential sewer hookup to the city's sewer line, WFSB 3 TV reported. Dirocco was rescued from the trench but later died at a local hospital.

The incident occurred just after 6 p.m. The trench was five feet wide and five feet deep, NBC CT reported.

The victim was found under the dirt in the trench.

Police are investigating along with the Connecticut Occupational Safety and Health Administration, NBC CT reported.
