He graduated from Shelton High School and the University of New Haven with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He was employed as a police officer with the town of Stratford before retiring and starting his own private investigation firm. He played on several local hockey teams throughout the years in both Shelton and Bridgeport. He had a rare gift of finding humor in any situation, with a joke or prank that left everyone laughing.

Rebecca (Recupero) Martin, 70, beloved wife of 48 years to Richard Martin, passed away peacefully on Feb. 22, 2025. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart University with a degree in criminal justice, and worked in the records department at the Trumbull Police Department for over 18 years before her retirement. She was a lover of all animals and cared for countless pets over the years. Her greatest enjoyment came from the many hours she spent riding and nurturing her horse, "Bunky."
