Oxford Democrats Name Candidates For First Selectman And Selectman Offices
Amy Sarris and David McKane will be the top of the Democratic ticket in the November municipal elections.

OXFORD, CT — Amy Sarris accepted the Democratic nomination for First Selectwoman of Oxford at a July 17 caucus, and expressed her excitement about teaming up with longtime Selectman David McKane to secure a strong future for the town.
According to a media release from the Oxford Democratic Town Committee, the duo believes "elected officials should be trustworthy and honest, and they intend to protect and preserve the rural Oxford we love by effecting change in how our town government operates."
Sarris, a Minnesota native, moved to Oxford in 2013. She earned her Juris Doctorate in California and has worked at a law firm since moving to Connecticut. She and her husband Will have two children.

Sarris has initiated a transparency movement in Oxford. Known as the woman who streams and records town meetings, she has given the general public more widespread access to important public meetings. Understanding firsthand the demands of work, family, and volunteerism, Sarris channeled her belief that government should be accessible to all into action, the release states.
In addition to her activism, Sarris is an assistant coach with Oxford Soccer League and serves on the town building committee responsible for HVAC renovations to both GOES and QFS. She served on the superintendent’s supervisory committee and taught Sunday school at Christ Church Quaker Farms.

Her running mate, McKane, is a lifelong Oxford resident, and a former employee of Public Works. He and his wife Linda, the longtime assistant town clerk, raised their three daughters in town. Serving the community for decades, including as a selectman for 18 years, he brings a wealth of firsthand experience and knowledge.
He formerly served on the Board of Education and Planning & Zoning. He also volunteered his time with the Special Olympics, AmeriCares and Oxford Greenway Trail as Steward. He was an original member of the Oxford Land Trust Board of Directors and has celebrated 38 years of membership. \
McKane understands the necessity of preserving and protecting the Oxford he grew up in for future generations.
