OXFORD, CT — Oxford registrar of voters Ellen Fox has announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for state representative of the 131st District. The 131st District consists of Oxford and portions of Southbury and Naugatuck.

As a registrar, Fox is responsible for protecting and promoting public trust and confidence by conducting elections in the community. Charged with maintaining the integrity of the voting process, her role demands that these principles be placed above personal or partisan gain. The task requires knowledge, courage, and the ability to remain bipartisan despite changes in society and its laws.

“I work with my counterpart as a nonpartisan team to ensure that federal, state, and local elections are conducted timely, responsibly, securely, and with the highest level of professional election standards,” Fox said. “The respect afforded by each of us to the other is a model for how good government should operate on every level. This is how I would function at the state level as a representative.”

Fox has also served the community in a number of ways through her extensive volunteer work. She developed and launched the highly-successful “Meal on Me” program during the COVID-19 quarantine which allowed residents to donate meals to Oxford restaurants for first responders and healthcare workers to thank and support those on the frontline of the pandemic. It also helped restaurants to operate during a very difficult time.

Fox has been involved with many worthwhile community organizations. She was a member of the Friends of Shakespeare in the Litchfield Hills, helping to produce free Shakesperience productions in the town of Washington. She co-chaired the Western Connecticut Leadership Cultural and Social Committee, a subsidiary of the Connecticut Community Foundation, and planned meaningful board and volunteer opportunities with nonprofit organizations in the Litchfield Hills and Greater Waterbury area.

A lifelong Connecticut resident, Fox has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science from Boston University, a Masters of Arts in foundations curriculum and teaching from Fairfield University, and a professional certificate in administration and educational leadership from Sacred Heart University. She taught high school social studies for 21 years in Ridgefield, New Fairfield, Hamden and Darien.

As state representative, Fox said she would continue her duties as a registrar of voters in Oxford and focus on ensuring that elections and early voting are financially supported by the state legislature, preserving reproductive freedom for women in Connecticut, promoting workforce and affordable housing, and conserving the environment with an eye on air quality.

Fox welcomes questions and concerns from residents of the 131st. She can be reached at foxforthe131st@gmail.com.
