Rocky Hill 2015 Election Guide: The Candidates, Polling Places, Sample Ballot

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3 and we share with you some of the information you'll need to know.

Rocky Hill voters will be selecting a mayor and town council members when they head to the polls Election Day Tuesday. And there are two referendum questions on the ballot as well.

The first ballot question:

“Shall the $6.45 million appropriation and bond issuance authorization for the Rocky Hill Public Safety Improvement Program (2015), consisting of the acquisition of various fire vehicles and equipment, the replacement and modernization of the Town’s Police dispatch center and radio communication infrastructure and equipment, and improvements to the police station, as adopted by resolution of the Town Council, be approved?”

The second ballot question:

“Shall the Rocky Hill Town Charter be amended, changed or provisions added, all as set forth in the Final Report of the 2015 Rocky Hill Charter Revision Commission, approved by the Rocky Hill Town Council on August 17, 2015, and thereafter published in a newspaper with a general circulation in Rocky Hill and filed in the Office of the Rocky Hill Town Clerk and posted on the Town website?”

Incumbent Republicans Mayor Henry Vasel is being challenged by Democrat Claudia A. Baio.

Town Council

Vote for five candidates.

Democratic candidates are Nancy Mayeda- Brescia, Anthony “Tony” LaRosa, Joe Kochanek Jr., John Emmanuel and William “Bill” O’Sullivan. The Republican candidates are Nadine Bell, Frank Szeps, Guy Drapeau, Catherine Vargasand Meg Casasanta.

Selectmen

Vote for any two candidates.

The Democratic candidates are Barbara Orsini Surwilo and Lois Morton. The Republican candidates are Donald G Watson and Patricia M Hughes-Walworth.

Board of Education

Select any five candidates.

The Democratic candidates are Barry D. Goldberg, Tejal “TJ” Vallam, Laurie J. Boske, Maria Mennella and Rene “Skip” Rivard. The Republican candidates are Jennifer Simboski Allison, Frank Morse, Danielle Alfano Plona, Brian Dillon and Dilip Desai.

Board of Assessment Appeals

Vote for any two candidates.

The Democratic candidates are Michael Casparino and Susan Moore. The Republican candidates are Steven Drapeau and Marti Stiglich.

Zoning Board of Appeals

Vote for any three of the six candidates.

The Democratic candidates are Stephen Park, Philip H. Benoit and Joe Coelho. The Republican candidates are Gregory Faulkner, Christopher Incarvito and James Reilly.

Vote for any two of the alternate member candidates.

The Democrats running are William “Bill” Tangney and John Bedlack. The Republicans are Michelle Zak and Tom Pugliese.
