Town Buys Development Rights to Hayes Farm for $2M

Rocky Hill secures lands for agricultural use with funds from 2012 bond for that purpose.

The Rocky Hill Town Council unanimously approved a $2 million deal to purchase the development rights to almost 45 acres of farmland on the west side of town, owned for generations by the Hayes family.

The properties along Hayes Road have now been designated for agricultural use, ensuring the pond and pastures will remain farmland despite any future developments in the area.

The $2 million will come from a $10 million bond approved in 2012 for just this purpose, according to a report in the Hartford Courant.
