What Foods Last The Longest? Regional Health Agency Has The Answer

The Central Connecticut Health District, which covers Rocky Hill, Berlin, Newington, and Wethersfield, issued a very interesting report.

ROCKY HILL, CT — A regional health agency put out an interesting chart Tuesday, July 1, about foods that are deemed "nonperishable," but go bad anyway.

The Rocky Hill-based Central Connecticut Health District covers Berlin, Newington, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield.

According to the health department, "non-perishable" doesn't mean "never perishable."

"Did you know that these so-called 'non-perishable' foods actually have an expiration date?" wrote the department.

"Now is a good time to take a peek in the pantry to see if you have any of these items; they may be past their prime."

Case in point, coffee after it has been ground lasts only one week, peanut butter three months, and ketchup four to six months.

Topping the list of resilient foodstuffs, the department said, are maple syrup (two years), white rice (a few years), and pickles (two years).
