HARWINTON, CT — State Sen. Paul Honig, D-Harwinton, announced his re-election campaign for the 8th State Senate District on Friday.
The 8th Senate includes the towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Hartland, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury, and portions of Torrington, Harwinton, and Granby.
After losing a state Senate bid in 2022, Honig ousted incumbent Republican State Sen. Lisa Seminara in November 2024, an upset in the traditionally Republican district.

"Affordability is one of the biggest challenges facing Connecticut residents, and now more than ever, our district needs a strong voice with a seat at the table in Hartford and the backbone to stand firm against Washington's costly economic policies," Honig said. "From housing, healthcare, and insurance to energy, groceries, and taxes, too many people are struggling to make ends meet. In this era of surging national debt and skyrocketing consumer costs, I'm committed to leveraging decades of financial expertise to make life more affordable in Connecticut, and that means putting our community ahead of party politics and special interests."
Honig discussed his first term in the state Senate.
“I’m proud of what we accomplished in my first year. We passed a responsible budget with no new taxes, preserved recent tax cuts for middle-class families, and made historic payments toward our unfunded pension liabilities. We made a major investment to lower the cost of child care, and we passed the Ratepayers First Act, which will reduce electricity bills by $800 million over the next three years,” he said.
In addition to his work on economic issues, Honig serves as co-chair of the Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.
“It’s been an honor to serve those who have served our country,” Honig said. “In 2025, our committee had a highly productive year, with 18 bills voted out of committee, passed by both the House and Senate, and signed into law.”
He served on the Harwinton Board of Selectmen for three terms from 2019-25.
He currently serves as the treasurer and executive board member at his synagogue, the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation in Simsbury.
