Southbury Coronavirus Cases At 159; 30% Linked To Group Homes
Health officials said rate of new coronavirus cases "has clearly slowed" in Southbury, Woodbury and Oxford.
SOUTHBURY, CT — More than a quarter of coronavirus cases in Southbury, Woodbury and Oxford are linked to congregate housing, the Pomperaug Health District announced Tuesday in an update that saw the area's total number of viral infections rise to 279.
According to the update, more than 70 percent of coronavirus-related deaths are linked to residents of nursing homes, assisted living, group homes and the Southbury Training School; the total number of deaths related to coronavirus now stand at 41, with Southbury accounting for the largest proportion of deaths, with 33, as well as the the most coronavirus cases, with 145.
In a Facebook post, the Pomperaug Health District noted that the rate of new coronavirus cases "has clearly slowed, as can be as can be seen by the flattening curve on the case growth chart."

Also on Tuesday, Connecticut's health officials reported a small uptick in the number of coronavirus hospitalizations over the previous 24 hours, which is just the second time that's happened in more than a month. Officials also said coronavirus cases in Connecticut increased by 405 to 40,873, while the number of deaths rose by 49 to 3,742.
