Southbury Man Claims He Was 'Stuck In Bottomless Pit': Police
Police said that the "pit" the driver drove into did in fact have a bottom.

NEWTOWN, CT — A Southbury man was arrested for driving under the influence after he allegedly drove his car into an old storm drain on Currituck Road and Tunnel Road. Police said Stephen Michael Ward, 28, of Southbury told them he was "stuck in some sort of a bottomless pit" when he called officers for help.
Police got the call at 1:44 a.m. on Oct. 27, and found that Ward's car had removed the cover to the storm drain. His car was resting on top of the drain, which police said had a bottom.
Ward was put through standardized field sobriety tests, and police quickly determined he was impaired, according to the police report.
