One Injured in School Bus Fire

A bus carrying students from RHAM High School to Lake Compounce became fully engulfed in flames on West Street Friday, leaving one person injured with burns.

Firefighters have extinguished a bus fire along West Street, but not before the school bus carrying students from RHAM High School became fully engulfed in flames and left one person with burn injuries, fire officials said.

The fire occurred around 10 a.m. on Friday morning as the bus was heading north on West Street to bring the students for a day trip to Lake Compounce.

No students were injured and the name of the burn victim was not released.

Fire officials remain on scene as the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection works to clear the scene of oil that leaked during the fire. Further details of the incident were not immediately available.
