Shark Shocks Southington Honeymooners

Southington newlywed gets more than he bargained for in caged shark dive.

For a Southington honeymooner, it was a ‘close encounter’ that probably was a tad too close for comfort.

In a few fleeting seconds, newlywed Spencer Reilly had a face-to-face look with a great white shark while, thankfully, diving in a cage off the coast of South Africa.

The great white apparently chased after some bait that was used to enhance the experience of divers who were in Gansbaai, South Africa — a tactic that has produced a number of comments on You Tube where the video was first posted. As of Wednesday evening, there were nearly 900,000 views of the 12-second video that Reilly posted.

The shark can be seen biting into a bar of the cage, while Reilly has an indecipherable reaction.

He and his bride, Tiffany Levesque spent two weeks in South Africa for their honeymoon that included shark diving in a cage on Nov. 2, according to NBC Connecticut.
