Southington Honors Fallen Police Officer

The Southington Town Council remembered a local resident and police officer who died in early April.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A veteran Torrington police officer who died of cancer last month was honored by Southington officials last week, citing his strong ties to Southington.

Torrington Police Sgt. Nicholas Lettieri, 34, died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer on April 5, prompting the Torrington Police Department to go into a state of mourning for many who served that community for 11 years.

Lettieri, however, was a resident of Southington, and he left behind a wife and young son.

Southington Town Council Chairman Paul Chaplinsky led colleagues for a moment of remembrance of Lettieri's legacy.

"April 5, we lost a Southington resident, Nicholas Lettieri was a police officer in Torrington who we lost at the beginning of this month to his battle with pancreatic cancer," Chaplinsky said. "Nicholas leaves behind a wife and his son."

Sadly, this is the second time in a year Southington mourned one of its residents in law enforcement.

On May 30, 2024, Connecticut State Trooper Aaron Pelletier was killed by an impaired motorist after he conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 84 in Southington.
