Southington Store Sells Winning Powerball Ticket

While Connecticut residents are plunking down their $2 to buy a ticket for the wallet-busting Powerball jackpot of an estimated $700 million this weekend, there’s one Nutmegger who already has some Powerball winnings.

On Monday, a Groton resident presented his winning Powerball “Quick Pick” ticket for the Jan. 2, drawing at Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill and claimed his $1 million prize. The man bought the ticket in Southington.

Romel Llivizaca’s Powerball ticket — 5-6-15-29-42 — were a perfect match, but he missed the Powerball number, 10. Llivizaca is Connecticut’s first $1 million Powerball winner of 2016.

In total, 31,051 winning Powerball tickets were sold statewide for that date, with prizes ranging from $4 to $1 million.

Llivizaca bought his ticket at the Henny Penny #57 at 273 Meriden Waterbury Tpke. in Southington, which will receive a $2,500 check from the CT Lottery.

Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is expected to be an estimated $700 million.

The overall odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning a Powerball Match 5 prize are 1 in 11,688,054. Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338.
