Southington Youths To Celebrate Substance Free Lifestyle

The town's annual 'Red Ribbon Rally' will take place later this week at the Southington Town Green.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — The decision to refrain from substance use is one to be celebrated, and that is exactly what is going on in Southington this week.

Southington will come together to celebrate healthy choices at the annual "Red Ribbon Rally" on Thursday, Oct. 16, from 6:45 to 8 p.m. on the Southington Town Green, 75 N. Main St.

The theme for this year’s rally is “Life is a puzzle. Solve it drug-free.”

Families, clubs, and sports teams are invited to join the Southington Drug Task Force and STEPS in a commitment to staying drug-free.

This event is a celebration of choosing to stay drug-free by engaging with the school community,
strengthening physical and mental health, giving back to others, and focusing on positive
opportunities, according to event organizers.

Teams, clubs, and organizations will take the stage alongside their coaches or advisors to share a prevention message— the inspirational “why” behind the group’s choice to focus on the positive.

“For over 30 years, this rally has inspired our community to come together around one simple message: keeping our children drug-free,” said Trish Kenefick, chairperson of the Southington Drug Task Force. “We hope you’ll join us for this year’s celebration of commitment and community.”

Kenefick, a lifelong resident and former teacher, has helped organize the event for over three decades.

Again this year, the emcee will be the Rev. Victoria Triano, former chairwoman of the Southington Town Council.

Keynote remarks will be given by Frank Pepe, assistant superintendent of Southington Public Schools.
