UPDATE: Road Closure Continues as Utility Pole is Repaired in Southington

A trailer became disconnected from a truck and struck a utility pole on Friday.

Update: 3:25 p.m.

Southington Police say that the area of Marion Avenue — from Defashion Street to Burritt Street — will remain closed for several more hours as crews replace a utility pole and transformer that were knocked down in a Friday morning accident.

Police said that as 3 p.m., the trailer was in the process of being removed from the accident scene and work on replacing the pole will begin. Police added, “The area will be closed to vehicular traffic for several more hours. There is no further information available at this time.”

The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m. when a trailer disengaged from the truck hauling it and rolled into the pole. No one was injured in the incident.

Hundreds of customers in Southington and Cheshire remain without power late Friday morning after a trailer being hauled by a truck disengaged from the truck and rolled into utility pole and toppling it, according to Southington Police.

The accident occurred at about 10:03 a.m. the Southington Police and the Southington Fire departments responded to the scene in the area of Marion Avenue and Burritt Street.

Upon arrival Officers found that one utility pole and transformer had been taken down by the trailer. “It appears that the trailer broke free from the truck that was towing it and rolled backwards into the pole,” Southington Police said.

Marion Avenue will be closed from Defashion Street to Burritt Street while crews repair the downed utility pole, police said. Traffic in the area will be detoured around the accident scene.

There are several neighborhoods without power and at least one intersection without a functioning traffic control signal, police said.

According to Eversource, 604 of Southington’s 19,718 customers are without power and 313 of 11,376 customers in Cheshire.

There were no injuries reported.

Southington Police said the accident is still under investigation they will send out an update when the road reopens.
