Wins Continue to Mount for SHS Robotics Team

As the season draw to a close, the team continues to build on their already impressive record and a win Saturday provided another feather in the cap for the impressive 'Odd Job' and the Cyberknights.

Southington didn’t win just one competition, but two on Saturday – and the strength of their robot ‘Odd Job’ truly did shine when it was the mentors who took the second match in an unplanned turn of events at Northeastern University in Boston.

Sandra Brino, mentor for the Cyber Knights Team 195, said Sunday that the team took home the top prize in the 2013 Beantown Blitz in Boston, finishing first out of 34 teams after entering as the top seed and finishing with a 7-0 record.

“They were the highest scoring qualification robot with 540 points, 207 points higher than the second team, and for the final elimination rounds, they selected an awesome alliance with the Team 175 Buzz Robotics from Enfield and Team 1761 TekClaz from Lynn, Mass,” Brino said in an announcement on Southington Patch. “In addition to the win, they won the ‘Sharp Shooter Award’!”

Brino said the team also had an unexpected victory when the mentor team of Michael Kahl, Mark Lefkovich, Keith LaFollette and Gino Brino took home the gold in an impromptu mentor’s match.

The team will conclude their postseason play and “dream season” this weekend at Wolcott High School in the “Where’s Wolcott?” competition.
