[Photos] Police Warn of Flooding in South Windsor
Chief of Police Matthew Reed snapped these photos after the heavy rains over the last couple of days.
While animals weren’t exactly walking on to a big boat two by two on Thursday, South Windsor did see a large amount of rain.
Chief of Police Matthew Reed (and sometimes Patch photographer) captures several scenes from around town where the rains brought some flooding, including the parking lot at Veterans Memorial Park, Ferry Road and Vibert Road.
Reed said that the photos are more than just interesting scenes, but instead depict public safety issues in town of which the public should be aware.

Vibert Road, for example, is where the sewer treatment plant is located as well as a boat launch, so access to both is hampered, Reed said.
There is a house at the end of Ferry Lane, which first responders may not be able to access, Reed said.

“There’s five miles of the Connecticut River that cut through South Windsor, as well as its tributaries like the Podunk River and the Scantic,” Reed said. “We do [take photos and observe conditions] as part of emergency operations to be aware of hazardous conditions.”
Reed said that public safety officials also monitor the town’s infrastructure - such as a bridge on Main Street - to see how high the water gets and whether measures need to be taken.Get more local news delivered straight to your inbox. Sign up for free Patch newsletters and alerts.
