South Windsor Council Approves Change to Meeting Procedures

Change means regular meetings will begin at 7 p.m.

As Mayor Saud Anwar took office and began to set his priorities for the town, one of his first actions was to revise the format of the Town Council meetings.

Previously, each meeting began at 7 p.m. with a work session, when councilors could discuss various issues and agenda items. The work session was followed by the actual meeting, during which the council could conduct its business. The meeting was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. but the discussions of the first meeting routinely spilled over past the 8 p.m. mark and continued once the council reached those items on the agenda.

Anwar proposed that the regular meeting begin at 7 p.m. Work session instead will be held on an as-needed basis, with discussion on each issue to be held as it is reached in the meeting agenda.

Discussion on the changes centered mostly on the public’s interest in speaking at different periods in the meeting. The public will continue to be welcome to speak at the beginning of the meeting at the designated time and as invited by the council in order to offer factual testimony.

The council approved the changes, which will take effect in January.
