South Windsor Fire Engine Company One Driveway to Be Repaved
Project will cost $70,000 in LoCIP funds.

The Town Council on Monday approved apportioning $70,000 of LoCIP funds to repave the South Windsor Fire Department Headquarters driveway.
Although the town's public works department recently re-patched the deep ruts in the driveway, the $70,000 project will provide a long-term solution to the issue.
The ruts created a safety hazard and also put the expensive fire vehicles at risk of damage every time they left the building.
The project will also be deeply discounted, as the $70,000 will only cover the cost of the materials for the reinforced concrete ramp for the vehicle bays.
William Mitchell agreed to provide the cost of labor and machinery for no charge, according to Town Manager Matthew Galligan.
Town Councilor Keith Yagaloff said that typically he would recommend waiting on a project like this, but to be able to get the work done through donations made it "a no-brainer."
Town Councilor Kevin McCann said that the issue was dangerous in good weather, but even more hazardous during the winter.
"It needs to be rectified," McCann said. "This is definitely an improvement to the town for safety and to protect equipment."
Town Councilor Ed Havens thanked Mitchell profusely.
"He's one helluva guy," Havens said.
