South Windsor Police Log for June 20 - 26

The following information was provided by the South Windsor and Newington police departments. It does not indicate convictions.

Sara Ballard, 19, of 405 Sandstone Drive, was charged June 26 with manslaughter in the second degree with a motor vehicle (2 counts), assault in the second degree (two counts), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and reckless driving. Ballard was released on $50,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on July 11.

Ballard’s charges stem from her actions as the operator of a vehicle on May 25, 2013 that resulted in a motor vehicle accident on Abbe Road, according to police. Sgt. Scott Custer of the South Windsor Police Department said that Ballard was traveling at a high rate of speed (in excess of 80 mph) and her vehicle left the roadway. Two passengers in the vehicle were killed in the accident and two others sustained serious injury.

Clayvon Countryman, 19, of 541 Rye St., was charged by Newington Police Department on June 20 with burglary in the third degree, larceny in the sixth degree and criminal mischief in the third degree. He was released on a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Superior Court on July 8.
