South Windsor RTC Chairwoman: Caucus Date Was Not Kept a Secret

Caucus date was not intentionally kept from Mayor Tom Delnicki, says Kathy Daugherty.

The Republican Town Committee did not keep its caucus date and time a secret, according to  to according to RTC Chairwoman Kathy Daugherty.

In response to an article posted on Patch on Monday in which Republican Mayor Tom Delnicki said he did not know when the caucus for his own party was taking place, Daugherty said that all that was required was for Delnicki to call her or to call the Town Hall to find out when it was taking place.

Delnicki said previously that he had checked with several party officials and could not get an answer as to when the caucus was scheduled (for the record, it’s July 23 at Town Hall).

Efforts to reach Daugherty to comment on Monday’s article over the course of four days were unsuccessful.

Daugherty said she was tending to a personal matter. Regardless, Daugherty said that no efforts were being made to keep the date of the caucus from anyone.

“The information is available at the Town Hall,” Daugherty said. “If Tom wanted the answer, all he had to do was call me. He’s got my home number, my cell phone number and my e-mail address.

All it was was a simple e-mail when he could have written, and I could have responded. There is no secret here. Why do I care when people know when the caucus is?”

Daugherty said that, by law, the time and date of the caucus had to be printed in the paper of record five days in advance. She said that the notice either was being published Monday or Tuesday.

Delnicki resigned from the Republican Town Committee in May over a falling out with party officials. There was some speculation that the caucus date was being withheld from him to prevent him from organizing volunteers to be present for nominating him for the council.

It’s an allegation that Daugherty vehemently denies.

“Everything we are doing is above board,” she said. “The last thing I want to do is hide anything from the public. This is an opportunity for Republicans to have their voices heard. No one trying to hide anything.”
