Here are the top stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:

  1. Just before 8 p.m. Tuesday a two-car crash happened on Route 81 in Killingworth, according to FOX 61. Martha Bernard, 79, was driving south on Route 81 when she swerved into the northbound lane and struck another car head-on. Bernard was transported to Shoreline Clinic and pronounced dead. The other car's driver was taken to Shoreline Clinic, and a passenger in Bernard's car was transported via LifeStar to St. Francis Hospital, according to FOX 61. The condition of those injured is unknown. (The Haddams-Killingworth Patch)
  2. According to a Facebook post from the Killingworth Volunteer Fire Co.: "At 12:40 p.m. on July 26, Killingworth Volunteer Fire Company responded to a brushfire on Parker Hill Road Extension. Crews accessed the 8-acre brushfire, which was rapidly spreading across a hay field from two locations and quickly worked to extinguish the fire. The scene was cleared at 1:45 p.m. Crews from Haddam Volunteer Fire Company, Chester Hose Company and Clinton Volunteer Fire Department provided mutual aid at the scene.   3. Just in time for back-to-school shopping Walmart stores throughout Connecticut will be reducing their clothing prices. Reportedly, "Walmart advised investors this week that the rise in consumer inflation dictated the retail leviathan reduce its prices for clothes. The ploy to move inventory off the shelves while Connecticut residents' buying power is getting hammered by high gas and food prices will benefit customers at all 33 Walmart locations in the state. "The increasing levels of food and fuel inflation are affecting how customers spend, and while we've made good progress clearing hardline categories, apparel in Walmart U.S. is requiring more markdown dollars," President and CEO Doug McMillon said in a news release."
