- According to an article in The Connecticut Mirror, "it has taken longer and cost more than its buyers would have liked, but it now appears that the Deer Lake Boy Scout Reservation in Killingworth, a scenic 255-acre woodland that one environmentalist called an “incredible geological wonder,” will be maintained as open space and protected from development. The Boy Scouts’ Connecticut Yankee Council, which owns the land, is in the final stage of negotiations to sell the land for $4.75 million to Pathfinders, Inc., a local nonprofit that has run camping programs at Deer Lake for many years under a lease agreement with the scouts." (The Connecticut Mirror)
- Thursday afternoon a hiker was reportedly injured in a fall at Gillette Castle State Park and first responders were called. According to Chris Ratigan's article, "Valley Shore fire, state police, the Chester Hose Co. and the East Haddam and Lyme fire departments all responded. The fall victim was found conscious and alert, then transported to a nearby hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known, according to FOX 61." (Patch)
- Reported COVID-19 cases in Connecticut continued to be relatively flat, and hospitalizations moved downward, but reported deaths have ticked up. According to Rich Scinto's artilce, "The state Department of Public Health reported a 12.07 percent positive test rate over the last seven days, compared with 11.75 percent in the prior seven-day reporting period. Net COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased by 27 patients between yesterday and the prior Thursday. Connecticut reported 34 new Covid-19-related deaths in its weekly Thursday update, which was the most since May 19." Stay healthy and safe out there! (Patch)
- Good news for nature lovers in the area! There may be a new Lyme disease vaccine hitting the market soon. According to an NPR article, "if it were to gain regulators' approval, it would become the only Lyme disease vaccine available for humans in the U.S. But it's expected to take years for the potential vaccine to reach the market. If the phase-three study is a success, the companies saidy, they would likely seek official authorization in 2025." (NPR.org)
