  2. The Haddam-Killingworth Youth & Family Services Backpack Program for the 2022-2023 school is currently accepting donations. According to an HK Now article, the program serves Haddam-Killingworth students who are in need of assistance with essential tools to learn in the classroom. To donate supplies, please use the bin outside HK Youth and Family Services, or you may drop off any school supplies at Killingworth True Value, 228 Route 81 in Killingworth. Please be sure to leave your name and contact information. The collection will be ongoing now through August 25. The following items are needed: pens, pencils, markers, erasers, pencil cases, pocket folders, notebooks, highlighters, post-its, rulers, index cards, glue sticks, colored pencils, child and teenage backpacks, lunch boxes, lined paper and three-ring binders.   3. The application period for the state child tax rebate has closed. Reportedly, the majority of eligible families applied for rebates. According to an article by Patch Staff writer Rich Scinto, " aout 239,000 applications were filed for the state child tax rebate by the July 31 deadline, according to state officials. The applications represent nearly 370,000 dependents.
    The rebate program provides up to $250 per dependent child, up to a maximum of three children per filer. Applications are being processed by the Department of Revenue Services and checks are expected to go out to qualified applicants starting in late August." (Patch)
