Obituary: Charles "Chuck" M. Smith, 69, of Moodus

A veteran of the Vietnam War, Charles "Chuck" Smith served with the U.S. Army.

Charles “Chuck” M. Smith, 69, of Moodus, beloved husband of Christine (Gowac) Smith, died Friday, March 11, 2016, at Middlesex Hospital.

He was born in Hartford, the son of the late Thomas P. and Veronica (Golet) Smith, Sr. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served with the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, Chuck was a meat cutter with Colonial IGA Market in Essex. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and will be remembered as an outdoorsman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Thomas P. Smith, Jr., and his wife Marty of Moodus; his two dogs, Labrador retriever Jenny and little Pug Oller; and the “Boys of Fall” David Carey, Bernie Smith, Lenny Giemza, and John Mcturk.

His Funeral Liturgy will be held Wednesday, March 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget of Kildare Church, Moodus-Leesville Rd., Moodus.

Burial with military honors will be in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Moodus. There are no calling hours. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to the St. Bridget of Kildare Church Golden Heart Fund, P.O. Box 422, Moodus, CT 06469.
